Algebra 1 Course:

This is a first-year algebra course in which your student will learn to reason symbolically. The key content involves writing, solving, and graphing linear and quadratic equations, including systems of two linear equations in two unknowns. Quadratic equations are solved by factoring, completing the square, graphically, or by application of the quadratic formula. The course also includes study of monomial and polynomial expressions, inequalities, exponents, functions, rational expressions, ratio, and proportion. Algebraic skills are applied in a wide variety of problem-solving situations.

Students will also be given practice SAT/ACT problems at the very beginning of every class, and also incorporated weekly in their homework.

Pre-Calculus Course:

The scope of the course includes trigonometry, identities, functions, graphing, sequences, series, conic sections, probability and matrices, finishing with limits and an introduction to calculus. This course is recommended for students interested in pursuing university studies for any degree.

Often students take Physics while taking Pre-cal, that is why I front load all the trig chapters the first half of the year. Pre-Calculus is a critical course to take because it shores up any holes or cracks in a student’s foundation. It is the last stop before college level math. This course prepares them to be successful whether they pursue Calculus or College Algebra.

Students will also be given practice SAT/ACT problems at the very beginning of every class, and also incorporated weekly in their homework.

Pre-Algebra :

Pre-Algebra is a course intended to enable a student to make a successful transition from arithmetic to algebra and geometry. This course will place a strong emphasis on the continued study of integers, order of operations, variables, expressions, and equations. Students will solve and graph equations and inequalities, write and solve proportions, and explore geometry, statistics, and graph concepts. Problem solving will be emphasized throughout the course.

Algebra 2 Course:

This course is designed to build on algebraic and geometric concepts.  It develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, radical and rational functions, exponential and log functions, conics, as well as sequences, series and probability. It also introduces matrices and their properties.  The content of this course is important for students’ success on both the SAT/ACT and college mathematics entrance exams.  Students who complete Algebra II should take Pre-Calculus next.

Students will also be given practice SAT/ACT problems at the very beginning of every class, and also incorporated weekly in their homework.

SAT/ACT PREP CLASS:

The best way to prepare and improve a student’s scores is with test taking strategies, familiarity with these tests, practice over the concepts tested, and practice over actual tests. The best gains also come with time, consistently, intentionally working through SAT/ACT types of problems. This course will do all these things. This class will focus on SAT in the fall and ACT in the spring. There are some strategies specific with each of these tests, but the math content is very much the same, so that makes preparing for both benefit each other.

Two textbooks are required:  The Official ACT Prep Guide, The Official SAT Study Guide
