Cynthia Vick, The Math Mom
Hi, my name is Cynthia Vick. I grew up in the Dallas area. I graduated from UNT with a BS in Education and a major in mathematics. I have 4 grown children, 7 grandchildren and have been married for 42 years. I have been teaching math for 40 years now, and I still love it and have a passion for helping students “get” math. I started out teaching in public school. I left the classroom when I had my first child, and began tutoring high school students in math. Once our oldest turned 6, I began homeschooling. We lived in northern Virginia and were part of an amazing homeschool co-op. Parents began approaching me about teaching high school math classes. This was an answer to prayer, and so for the next 12 years I taught math classes to homeschoolers. It was incredibly rewarding and so fulfilling! My husband’s job moved us back to Texas. I taught online math classes to homeschoolers all over the US for one year, then was math department chair at a private Christian school for 11 years, and now have come back full circle to coming alongside homeschool families and teaching math classes for homeschoolers.
I am so excited for the opportunity to be a part of the homeschool community, to encourage moms in the incredibly difficult but far rewarding task of homeschooling. I wouldn’t give anything for the 14 years of homeschooling my children
