# Algebra 1 Course:

This is a first-year algebra course in which your student will learn to reason symbolically. The key content involves writing, solving, and graphing linear and quadratic equations, including systems of two linear equations in two unknowns. Quadratic equations are solved by factoring, completing the square, graphically, or by application of the quadratic formula. The course also includes study of monomial and polynomial expressions, inequalities, exponents, functions, rational expressions, ratio, and proportion. Algebraic skills are applied in a wide variety of problem-solving situations.

*Students will also be given practice SAT/ACT problems at the very beginning of every class, and also incorporated weekly in their homework.*

# Pre-Calculus Course:

The scope of the course includes trigonometry, identities, functions, graphing, sequences, series, conic sections, probability and matrices, finishing with limits and an introduction to calculus. This course is recommended for students interested in pursuing university studies for any degree.

Often students take Physics while taking Pre-cal, that is why I front load all the trig chapters the first half of the year. Pre-Calculus is a critical course to take because it shores up any holes or cracks in a student’s foundation. There is a big difference in taking PreCalculus on the college level, where the pace is very fast because it is only a semester course, compared to taking it on the high school level where the material is spread out over a year. It is the last stop before college level math. This course prepares them to be successful whether they pursue Calculus or College Algebra.

*Students will also be given practice SAT/ACT problems at the very beginning of every class, and also incorporated weekly in their homework.*

# Pre-Algebra :

Pre-Algebra is a course intended to enable a student to make a successful transition from arithmetic to algebra and geometry. This **course** will place a strong emphasis on the continued study of integers, order of operations, variables, expressions, and equations. Students will solve and graph equations and inequalities, write and solve proportions, and explore geometry, statistics, and graph concepts. Problem solving will be emphasized throughout the course.
