Algebra 1 Course:

This is a first-year algebra course in which your student will learn to reason symbolically. The key content involves writing, solving, and graphing linear and quadratic equations, including systems of two linear equations in two unknowns. Quadratic equations are solved by factoring, completing the square, graphically, or by application of the quadratic formula. The course also includes study of monomial and polynomial expressions, inequalities, exponents, functions, rational expressions, ratio, and proportion. Algebraic skills are applied in a wide variety of problem-solving situations.

Pre-Calculus Course:

The scope of the course includes trigonometry, identities, functions, graphing, sequences, series, conic sections, probability and matrices, finishing with limits and an introduction to calculus. This course is recommended for students interested in pursuing university studies for any degree.

Often students take Physics while taking Pre-cal, that is why I front load all the trig chapters the first half of the year. Pre-Calculus is a critical course to take because it shores up any holes or cracks in a student’s foundation. There is a big difference in taking PreCalculus on the college level, where the pace is very fast because it is only a semester course, compared to taking it on the high school level where the material is spread out over a year. It is the last stop before college level math. This course prepares them to be successful whether they pursue Calculus or College Algebra.

Pre-Algebra :

Pre-Algebra is a course intended to enable a student to make a successful transition from arithmetic to algebra and geometry. This course will place a strong emphasis on the continued study of integers, order of operations, variables, expressions, and equations. Students will solve and graph equations and inequalities, write and solve proportions, and explore geometry, statistics, and graph concepts. Problem solving will be emphasized throughout the course.

Algebra 2 Course:

This course is designed to build on algebraic and geometric concepts.  It develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, radical and rational functions, exponential and log functions, conics, as well as sequences, series and probability. It also introduces matrices and their properties.  The content of this course is important for students’ success on both the SAT/ACT and college mathematics entrance exams.  Students who complete Algebra II should take Pre-Calculus next.

Geometry Course:

Geometry is a critical component of a mathematics education because students are required to relate concepts from Algebra I to geometric phenomena. This course requires students to focus on logical proof and critical thinking. Most post-secondary institutions require students to take a geometry course in high school because this subject provides the necessary mathematical tools for complex reasoning and solving problems in the sciences, technology, engineering, and many skilled trades and professions. Topics include logic and proof, parallel lines and polygons, perimeter and area analysis, volume and surface area analysis, similarity and congruence, trigonometry, and analytic geometry. Emphasis will be placed on developing critical thinking skills as they relate to logical reasoning and argument

Students will review Algebra concepts throughout the entire year, so that they are prepared to walk into Algebra 2 or PreCalculus.
